When we moved into our Cul-de-Sac we always knew we had good neighbors. But last night proved just how good we have it. Last night was my Back-to-School night at 6:00. Scott had court at 3:00, but we figured that he would be long done before that. I wanted to be at the school at 5:30 and Scott was still not home. I knew that he could not answer his phone cause he was still in court, but I texted him. No response. I ran immediately next door to see if they could watch Trevor until Scott was done at court. They weren't home. I called a few houses down knowing that they had a young woman who could watch Trevor. Her mom, Stephanie, answered the phone This was 5:40. She just left for Young Women's. The mom then offered to take Trevor with her! Her son is going to be my students this year and was going to Back-to-School night and she offered to have Trevor with her while I greeted the parents! I said let me try so and so across the street and I'll call you back. I went to ask the neighbor across the street and they were pulling out of their drive-way. Asking Stephanie was pretty much my only option. I had run out of time. I was supposed to be in my seat in the gym by this time. I had to go.
The great neighbor that she is really saved us. I called and left a message with Scott to come to the school and pick Trevor up when he was done. Scott came about 30 minutes after Back-to-School night started. I am so grateful for having great neighbors.
In our old place in St. George this didn't happen. I was 9 months pregnant with Trevor and Scott was due to enter the Police Academy 10 days before Trevor's due date. I sent around a sign-up sheet through the ward for anyone that would be willing to help drive me to the hospital if I was to go into labor while Scott was away. Not ONE person signed-up. Luckily, Trevor was born early before Scott went in the Academy.
Where we are at now is the perfect place. I could never imagine having the amazing neighbors that we do. Stephanie was my last choice because I knew that she needed to get to Back-to-School night with her son as well. I am deeply gratified by the kind neighbors that we have.
