Venting

Washington County School District has chosen to cut 9th and 10th grade sports to save money. This is only two of the many things the school board has chosen to cut. Another program they cut is the Gifted and Talented Program. Well, because the community is in an absolute "my child will never have a chance at college sports or the pros because they can't get in at a young age" hissy fit, parents and the school board have come to a resolution where they will be added back, but the parents are going to have to pay more out of pocket. Now why didn't anyone blink an eye at cutting the Gifted and Talented program? Shows where this school district's and community's priorities are. I work for this district and I'm not a big fan of sports; I never have been, even in high school. I see where parents are coming from, but come on, you know where the economy lies and the district made some tough decisions. Please realize that cuts are being made everywhere to save money. Nobody is trying to rip any child's dream away. They are just doing what they have to. What about those kids who won't be going to an Ivy League College? What about their dreams?

Vent #2: When did Easter become all about little kids and the me, me, me. While I got Trevor the little Easter Basket and I will hide eggs and decorate them, I want Trevor to know WHY we celebrate this holiday. I read people's blogs where their kids say "I want this for Easter and I want that for Easter." I guess as a society we have done this ourselves. Easter is a time to celebrate the resurrection and atonement of Christ. I don't mind contributing a little to the commercial aspect of it. But my children will know why we celebrate this important day for our eternal salvation.

Oh how I wish I had you with me last night!! My blood has been boiling over this issue, granted our son plays sports and we keep our kids involved, but we try to do it for fun!! There is a terrible issue in this town with sports and teaching our children that this is the only thing they can get out of life, anywho, I just hate what so many things in this world have come to!! Also, I hope you know I was kidding about giving Baylie an A, she must earn it! Thank you for being so kind about my work though, you should take a nap and eat a whole bag of chips for the day you had the other day!
