Allow me to vent

When Scott decided to pursue a career as a police officer I knew the perception many people have towards cops.  It seems that people get one ticket all of a sudden all cops become arrogant pigs.  Did it ever occur to these people that perhaps THEY did do something wrong?  I have been pulled over twice in my life and both times resulted in a ticket.  The first one I was 17 and I ran a red light.  To this day I fight that the light was yellow.  The second was when Trevor was somewhere between 6 and 9 months old and Scott had only been on patrol for a short while.  I was speeding and received a ticket from an Ivins officer who happened to go the academy with Scott.  (Cops' families are NOT exempt from tickets).  This one I will not dispute.  I was speeding, I thought the limit was higher, but the fact was I was speeding. Why must so many people out there hate cops?  They go out there every day carrying a gun to protect the community.  They are there to enforce the laws set by the government.  The government says "don't go this fast" They go fast, they get a ticket and all of the sudden the cops are out to get people?  I wonder if people just stopped and thought about what they're saying?  Why do so many people have a disregard for people in these types of positions?  All they are doing is their job.  Can you imagine the society we would be in without cops? 

I've known that I would have to deal with this and I do.  I usually can just ignore it.  Until I read this on a friend's facebook status comment:

"I don't need or want police "protection". Traffic cops are the worst. Always some bogus reason to pump city or county revenues. They need to get real jobs or at least do something worth while for the "public interest"."

 

"pump city or county revenues"?  BS!  Scott has worked for the police department for 3 years and have not had one cent in a raise and his insurance premiums keep going up because of other city workers that just sit on their butts!  And because of this he has actually taken pay cut!  What's a real job?  Should he go work at a fast food restaurant and call that a real job because he's helping society become fat? (okay that one was a little too far).

 

I've learned that they people who have a beef with police are those that have done something for police action to be taken against them.  I guess it's too hard for people to break the rules and think they can get away with it and when they don't, they need to blame someone instead of taking responsibility for their own actions.  Welcome to the real life.
